In 2020, after faithfully serving for 17 years as the President of the Port Washington Neighborhood Prayer Group Lighthouse, Vicki Gumina felt God calling her to pass the mantle. Trusting in His timing, she stepped down, making way for His next appointed leader.
It was then that God spoke to Penny, placing a clear call on her heart: she was to become President and eventually establish a new Community Lighthouse called "Open Door." He assured her, "Do not worry; I will lead." And lead, He did.
From the very first meeting, as a Community Lighthouse, held in a Port Washington hotel, God’s hand was evident. He guided the Leadership team in every detail, even down to the refreshments, which were eventually provided through the hotel’s catering service.
As the Lighthouse grew, so did its need for space. The meetings transitioned to Friedens Church in Port Washington, but when parking became a challenge for members, God once again made a way. He led the Leadership team to the Cedarburg American Legion Hall, where the owner—moved by the ministry’s mission—offered the space for just $25, a blessing that saved the group $35 a month.
Since its transition to a Community Lighthouse in 2022, Cedarburg "Open Door" continues to shine brightly as a place of fellowship, prayer, and worship. In another divine provision, God also spoke to the Leadership team about worship. A woman, who led worship at New Life Church, felt led to serve at Cedarburg "Open Door." She soon brought her husband and their son, a gifted guitarist, creating a powerful atmosphere of praise. In 2025, the son lovingly stepped down due to new job commitments, but his contribution remains a cherished part of the Lighthouse’s story.
Through every step, God has been faithful. Cedarburg "Open Door" Community Lighthouse stands as a testimony to His guidance, provision, and the power of obedience to His call.
